How do you get the size number of your footwear?

short answers for big questions

Lots of students do not understand why they need to study Maths and they often wonder: “What is it for?”; “What is it useful for?” There are lots of examples and situations in which we apply Maths, even without noticing it. When the alarm clock rings in the morning and we think “I just need more five minutes to stay in bed”, we are intuitively making mathematical calculations so as to understand if these five minutes will not mean being late for what we have routinely to do in the morning.

The size number of our footwear is obviously related to Maths. There is a small mathematical formula which relates the size to our foot in centimetres with the number of footwear:

`S = (5p + 32)/4`

According to which `S` represents the footwear number and `p` stands for the length of the foot in centimetres.

For instance, my foot size is `26cm`, and so, `S=(5xx26+32)/4 hArr S=162/4 hArr S=40,5`. So, the size number of my footwear ranges from 40 to 41. Unfortunately, this size is not a standardized one and it changes a little regarding the producer.
